本書是《常用漢字圖解》的第二版。本書對651個常用漢字的源流演變進(jìn)行了詳細(xì)描述，特別講解了漢字的字源本義及其發(fā)展，并給出甲骨文到現(xiàn)代漢字的字形演變過程。每個漢字根據(jù)字義來源配有圖解，便于讀者對漢字形體演變及本義的理解。每個漢字的講解均附有英文譯文，便于外國讀者學(xué)習(xí)和理解。英文譯文由北京大學(xué)姜望琪教授翻譯。本書是一本普及讀物，但對字源的解說注重文字學(xué)學(xué)理，既具有一定的文字學(xué)研究價值，又便于一般讀者科學(xué)理解漢字的源流演變。
